| Api Tuan Software is a personal undertaking. My name is Jorge E. Millet, and I have been working as professional programmer for more than fifteen years, in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina . In this period, I have developed software, worked as an advisor and consultant and have trained computer users in groups or individually for companies and government organisations. I have also been a secondary school teacher for six years and I am a freelance programmer at the moment. |
| The name Api Tuan Software comes from "Api Tupan", meaning "body only". These words used by "Yagan" or "Yaganes", native inhabitants of the lands next to the Beagle Channel in the far end of South America, referred to very poor people who had nothing but themselves. The Yagan people, today extinguished, occupied the area that they knew as Yahgashaga (mountain-valley-channel) later called Beagle by English explorers and visited by Captain Fitz Roy and naturalist Charles Darwin amongst others. Nowadays, the city of Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, is located in these lands. |
As an individual undertaking, it can be said that I am an "Api Tupan", since I have only had myself for this task. I wanted the name of my company somehow related to my country and my work. Fortunately, the acronym "API" is largely used all over the world by PC programmers (API: Application Programming Interface) |
